Hi there! Welcome to Oheyou.com (Get it: Oh Hey, You!), my little corner of the internet where I blog about all things related to homeschooling, mothering, wellness, kids, and creating a welcoming home. I’ve always loved research (to the point it drives my friends crazy), so I thought: Why not create a website where I can post all the experience and tips I’ve gathered from raising and homeschooling five young children? It’s not perfect, but it’s real. I’m here in the trenches, and every day I learn something new.
More about me, if you’re curious:
I’m Erika. I was born and raised in Indiana, and stayed there until I graduated from college from IU-Bloomington. After graduation, I packed up my hatchback and moved across the country to sunny California. I started working for film studios in Los Angeles while I attended USC Film School for my Master’s Degree. That’s where I met my husband, Evan. After I graduated with my MFA, I decided I hadn’t had enough schooling, so I enrolled in Law School at UC-Berkeley. Evan and I got hitched, honeymooned in Paris, and I eventually ended up with a law practice and a newborn. Phew!
Along the way, I worked in reality television on shows like The Bachelor, and also as an entertainment attorney for a few celebrity clients. When I was pregnant with my first child in 2006, I started writing a personal homeschool blog, UrthMama, that grew into a strong, loyal group of readers I consider friends. I now have five young children (four girls and a baby boy) – and I work from home while I homeschool them. My hands are full, and my heart is fuller! My husband continues to work in television, and we happily live with our brood in a beach bungalow in the South Bay of Los Angeles.
