Hey guys! I had a minute today and wanted to discuss something that’s been on my mind lately…CBD oil.
When I first heard about CBD oil, I honestly didn’t know what to think. It seems like everything right now (at least in California – haha!) is all about marijuana legalization, and so I thought CBD oil was part of that. I thought it was basically an oil that people took to get high.
Well, now I know how wrong I was! I was first introduced to CBD oil by a blog friend I met years ago. I was going through a difficult time medically with my 8 year old daughter, who has a severe autoimmune disease. My friend suggested that I try CBD oil with my daughter to see if she could find some improvement. I checked with her doctor, a top pediatric endocrinologist in Los Angeles, and he seemed open to the idea. What?! I was surprised. Clearly, I had a lot to learn about CBD oil.
My daughter didn’t end up taking CBD oil, since her medication and diet is working well now to heal her.
As you can see, she’s doing okay now… Her favorite place to be is up in a tree. 🙂
Anyhoo – my experience with my daughter opened my mind to CBD oil, and that maybe it could be helpful for me as I was going through some health issues of my own, mainly: anxiety, depression, aching joints, back pain, headaches, lack of focus, low thyroid, and autoimmune problems.
I looked into the differences between CBD Oil and medical marijuana, and I was shocked to find out that CBD oil often has almost no THC (the part of marijuana that gets you high). In fact, in most cases, the oil from CBD comes from a hemp plant that is completely different from the one we associate with marijuana. The hemp used in CBD oil is just as therapeutic, if not more so!
CBD oil comes with all the healing benefits of medical marijuana with none of the psychoactive side effects. That was really important for me to know, as I don’t want to take something (or give anything to my kids or pets) that will cause them to get high.
Yes, you read that right – there are CBD oils especially made for PETS. I had to laugh because of course our pets need the same kind of care that we humans do! I am thinking about getting this for Daisy, because as she gets older (she’s 7 1/2 now), she has some joint issues and her anxiety gets horrible during holidays like 4th of July or when we leave the house for the day.
Daisy, fresh from the groomers. She’s so pampered! 🙂
One thing that’s SO important is to find a CBD oil company that you trust. They are NOT all equal in quality. It’s like the Wild West out there right now for CBD oil, and so I did a lot of research to find the best CBD oil company I could find, especially since I knew I’d be taking it pretty much every day to deal with my anxiety.
I was so happy to find this company, because they make the highest quality, non-psychoactive (no THC) CBD oil. It’s made in the USA, and passes the highest quality standards on the market. All of their products are certified organic, and are 100% free of any synthetic or artificial ingredients. There’s no way I’d put something in my body (or my pet’s) unless I knew that it was safe.
As far as the benefits I’m seeing from taking CBD oil – I have been amazed at how much my anxiety has decreased. That’s been the biggest change for me.
For example, a year and a half ago, my doctor prescribed me Xanax for anxiety. But when I got pregnant with Huck last Fall, I stopped taking it immediately. I haven’t taken any Xanax since last September, and I was really struggling with my anxiety and panic attacks. Since I’ve started taking this every morning, I feel so much more clear-headed, my immune system feels stronger (I’m not getting sick or having headaches like I used to), and my anxiety is basically gone.
I haven’t had one panic attack since I started using CBD oil on a regular basis. Plus, I don’t have any of the bad side effects like I had with Xanax, which was basically feeling like a zombie all day anytime I took it.
So, there you have it! At first I was embarrassed to say I’d been taking CBD oil because I feel like everyone thinks it’s something associated with marijuana that gets you high, but nothing could be further from the truth. I think the more we talk about it, and the more education that is made available, the more the stigma will go away. I’m all for talking about mental health, especially postpartum depression and anxiety – and also finding natural ways to cure autoimmune disease, ADHD, and other health problems.
Have you ever used CBD oil? What was your experience? Tell me in the comments. 🙂
