Hey guys! Today I’m writing about the one kids app that I can’t live without in our home. I use a lot of apps for homeschooling and this one is my current favorite because it has so many good books, and I don’t have to clean them up off the floor every five minutes like I do our paper books. 🙂
I mean – I DO love regular old paper books (they smell so good!) and I like my kids having a wide variety of books to touch and curl up with on the couch. But my kids also love being on their tablets, so if I can sneak reading in there – I’m all for it!
I subscribed to Epic about five years ago, and I’ve been a happy customer ever since. I like to think of it as the Netflix for kids’ books. They have the best variety – and I always know that my kids are reading age-appropriate, good books. No twaddle, thankfully. 🙂
My daughter doing some light reading recently…up in a tree.
My kids are all voracious, advanced readers – and I think that is partially due to all the books they have available to them. They still love their other reading apps, and look forward to their weekly trip to the library. I also buy used books in lots on Ebay and Amazon, so we always have a good variety to choose between. I think we have more books than clothes in our house – and with four daughters, that’s saying something! Ha!
We even have books in our garage. I scored this cool bookshelf as an open box deal on Amazon – and I love it. I put it in the garage, along with a little couch, so the kids have been using this as their clubhouse/reading nook. Anything to get them reading!
Our thrifted reading couch in the garage…my daughter is reading this book (I love the whole series):
Anyway – besides regular old paper books, my kids love to read on their tablets. We have a ton of apps, but if I had to choose one reading app, I’d go for Epic. My one subscription allows me to have books for all my kids, which is a pretty big age span going all the way from preschool through middle school. I have a kindergartener and an elementary child, too! So, even though I pay a monthly fee to Epic, I still feel like I get my money’s worth because it gets used so much!
I like that you can use it on the computer, tablet, or on the phone. It really helps when we are waiting places like piano lessons because I can work with the younger kids and homeschool them, while the older girls have their piano lessons.
I feel really fortunate to homeschool at a time when there are so many quality options and resources available to us at a relatively low cost. It’s amazing and so convenient. When I started homeschooling my oldest, we didn’t have things like this! I know that makes me sound like a dinosaur. LOL. But seriously – how awesome is it that we have such great educational resources at our fingertips – literally!
Tell me in the comments – what are your favorite reading apps for kids? I’m always on the lookout for new ones.
Until next time…
Xoxo,
Erika
